What the Perfect Chess bot does

The Perfect Chess bot brings the board into Discord. Instead of opening the website, you can start a game, join an existing room, play against the computer, and make moves with slash commands.

The bot supports standard chess and the variants available on Perfect Chess. After each move, it posts an updated board image with the room code, clock, turn, and variant. Responses use English by default and switch to Brazilian Portuguese when your Discord locale is set to Portuguese.

To play, the bot must be installed in a server. You can add it to your own server or join the official Perfect Chess server to try it before inviting friends.

How to add the bot to your server

In the Perfect Chess sidebar, click the **Add bot** button. The OAuth invite opens Discord's authorization screen, where you choose the server that will receive the bot.

You need the Manage Server permission to complete the installation. The invite requests only the permissions required to answer commands and send the board, with no administrator access.

After you authorize the bot, it joins the server and registers the /chess command. If the Add bot button is not available, the invite link has not been configured on the site yet; in that case, join the official Perfect Chess server and ask for help there.

• Open Perfect Chess and click Add bot in the sidebar.
• Choose a server where you have administrator permission.
• Review the permissions and authorize the installation.
• Wait a few minutes for the /chess command to appear in Discord.

Main bot commands

Every command lives under /chess. Type a slash in the channel and choose the subcommand you need. Command names are in English, while options and responses are localized when available.

• quickplay looks for a fast game and can add a bot if nobody joins.

How to play a game through Discord

Start with /chess play to create a room. The bot replies with the room code and the board. Share the code with another player, or use /chess quickplay to join the fast-game queue.

When it is your turn, use /chess move with the move in square notation. The board updates in the same conversation, and the embed shows whose turn it is. If you prefer to practice, use /chess playbot and choose the computer's level.

To join a game that already exists, use /chess join with the room code. The bot seats you in the available chair and starts the game when both players are ready. If you need to stop early, use /chess resign before checkmate.

Variants and bot levels

The play, playbot, and quickplay commands accept a variant parameter. You can play Crazyhouse, Horde, Racing Kings, and other variants without leaving Discord.

In playbot, the level ranges from 0 to 20. Lower levels are better for learning and experimentation; higher levels demand more calculation and attention. The default level is 3, so adjust it to match your goal.

Games created by the bot use a standard 10-minute time control with no increment. For longer training sessions or casual games, the website board remains the more flexible option.

Official server and support

The official Perfect Chess server is the place to ask questions, report problems, suggest improvements, and find other players. It is also a good way to test the bot before adding it to a larger server.

In the site sidebar, use the **Join Discord** button to open the official server invite. If something goes wrong while using the bot, include the command you used, the room code, and what happened; this helps reproduce the issue.

Best practices for using the bot

Use a dedicated channel for games, especially on servers with many members. This keeps boards separate from other conversations and makes the history easier to follow.

Avoid repeating commands while a game is already active. The bot links each player to their current room; if you start another game without finishing the first one, you may end up in a room you did not expect.

Server administrators should review the bot permissions and allow it to respond only in the intended channels. If the commands do not appear, wait a few minutes, confirm that the applications.commands scope was authorized, and reinstall the bot if necessary.

Start playing on Discord

Add the bot to your server, type /chess help, and choose a game. If you prefer to play in the browser, the Perfect Chess board is available without installation or an account.

To invite friends, agree on a channel, create the room, and share the code. To practice alone, use /chess playbot and raise the level gradually.
